Magazine Title Planning

Picture House
‘Picture house’ is another synonym for ‘cinema’ which would attract the target audience as it indicates the contents of the magazine. However, it is quite an old fashioned name for the cinema so it may alienate a younger audience. Also, it is quite long so it would not fit properly as the masthead and therefore it would look unprofessional.

Silver Screen
‘Silver screen’ is another traditional name for the cinema which would make it appeal to the target audience as they would recognise the nature of the magazine. Nonetheless, the title has connotations of an older audience as it is used as a nickname for where elderly people to go to the cinema. This would push away a younger audience whereas the magazine is supposed to appeal to all ages. Furthermore, it is quite a long title which would not be able to fit across the masthead in a profession looking way.

The Flicks
This is a good title for a film magazine because it is another name for the cinema and films. It has a modern and fresh feel to it which can add to the appeal of the magazine to the target audience of film-lovers. Even though it is modern, it does not alienate older audiences because it is a popular synonym for ‘cinema’ which is known but not over-used. This is a good element because it sounds original and can be the name can therefore be solely associated with the magazine.

Playhouse
Another synonym for ‘cinema’, playhouse would be effective as the magazine’s title. It is a perfect length to fit along the masthead and thus, it would capture the attention of the target audience when it is on sale. Nevertheless, it also has other connotations, such as children’s toys, so it could therefore divert the attention of the target audience away from the magazine.

The Big Screen
‘The big screen’ is perhaps the best known slang name for the cinema which would be perfect for the title of the magazine as everyone would instantly know that the magazine is about films. On the other hand, the title is so well known that it is no longer original and therefore the title would not solely be associated with the magazine which would diminish its status.

Main feature Photo Planning

This shot is ok- it shows the actress in character through her clothing but it is hard to see exactly whether it is the character from the trailer as it is a medium long shot. This would be unlikely to capture the target audience of the film magazine as it would not stand out much on a store shelf. Also, houses are visible in the background which diminishes the horror convention of a derelict and isolated setting.

This photo shows the character next to a focal point in the trailer which is effective as it ties the ancillary text in with the main media product. Nevertheless, even though dark lighting is a convention of horror films, it is hard to see the expression on the character's face and therefore this would not capture the attention of the target audience as it does not engage them. The distance of the shot is good as it shows the relaxed body language of the character as well as the tatty state of her costume which implies that she has been in some sort of struggle- another horror convention.

This picture is good because it illustrates the isolated setting that is in the trailer which ties the two media texts in together well. The character is obscured by the branch but this is only a small obstuction. It supplies the target audience with a feeling that the character is hiding, implying that she may stalk her victims. The character's body language is simple but this hints that she is not scared by anything which arouses suspision about her character. The picture has a bit more distance than that of a mid shot but it is not quite a long shot either. The distance is good becuase it suggests that this character must be feared and therefore one must stay back.
