Teaser Trailer Location Planning

Location, Location, Location

The setting of a horror film can make or break the atmosphere of tension and supense that is trying to be created. Therefore, I have thought carefully about where to film my horror trailer for 'Sour'. I considered 3 main things when deciding the location- availability, scare factor and accesibility. There are 3 main locations in my trailer, two exterior and one interior.

This miniature bridge is effective as it is surrounded by shrubbery and it is small, thus giving the impression that it is unstable, much like the feelings of the characters in the trailer. Furthermore, from both of these angles it is difficult to see what lays on the other side of the bridge which therefoe aids the tension and suspense that I am trying to create.

These settings are very effective as they are very derelict which is a stereotypical convention of horror films. The shrubbery is also useful as it will provide natural sound effects of twigs snapping and rustling which will help build suspense. In addition the driveway is once again very deserted which is needed for one part of the storyline (see storyboards/ shotlists) It is very enclosed which gived the connotation of isolation and therefore no help for the victim and no obstacles for the villain.

This setting is for the chase sequence as it is a long empty stretch, plus the street lights will provide lighting. This is perfect for the mood of suspense that I am aiming for as it is low key lighting which will therefore create shadows and play on the minds of the target audience as they will wonder what the darkness is hiding. This setting is once again enclosed and therefore it hints at no escape for the victim.
